10 Black Fashion Stylists You Should Know

It’s the first day of February, aka the first day of Black History Month! It’s no secret; Black people and Black culture have always been immensely influential on fashion, it’s only now that the world has begun to take notice and give recognition to Black creatives for their contributions to the industry. In honor of Black History Month, we’re taking a look at the top 10 Black stylists who have changed the game, who you should know. Be sure to read up on these innovators, they may have just influenced or even created your favorite trends.

June Ambrose

There is only one word to describe June Ambrose, and that is iconic. Ambrose has created some of some of music’s most memorable looks and made it clear that this is not a game. Missy’s patent leather and vinyl outfit in “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” video? That was her. Diddy and Mase in “Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems”, yup that was her too. She also had a hand in transforming Jay-Z’s style from street to sleek throughout his career and styling him for both On The Run Tours with his wife Beyonce. In addition to styling rap superstars, June has styled stars including Kerry Washington, Zoe Saldana, Gabrielle Union and many more. On top of styling music videos, costume designing for movies and and major advertising campaigns, she has now used her talents to create clothing and accessory lines!

Misa Hylton

We can’t talk hip-hop fashion without mentioning Misa Hylton, who has also styled some of the most iconic looks including Diddy, Mary J. Blige and of course Lil’ Kim, who’s style continues to influence fashion and other female rappers today. It all came from the brilliant creative mind of Misa #respectthearchitect


Kollin Carter

Kollin Carter is becoming a legend in his own right, thanks to him constantly serving LOOKS with his superstar client Cardi B. Starting out as an Elle Magazine editor, he has quickly made a name for himself in the fashion industry and is definetly one to watch, we’re always waiting to see what he’s going to put Cardi in next and never dissapoints!


Jason Rembert

Jason Rembert has styled some of the hottest celebrities including Usher, Keri Hilson, Nicki Minaj, Issa Rae and Rita Ora. In such a short time span, Jason has established himself as one of Hollywood’s go-to stylists and has recently launched his very own clothing line, Aliette.

Zerina Akers
Beyonce’s personal stylist, need we say more? Beyonce’s legendary maternity shoot announcing the twins? That was her. And the first photo of the twins (well, kinda) that was her too, and just about every look Queen Bey posts on her Instagram, Zerina is to thank and she stays killing every single one! Like a lot of us, she started out as an intern organizing the sample closet now she has under her belt Beyonce, Chloe x Halle, and numerous publications including Women’s Wear Daily and Harper’s Bazaar.

Ty Hunter

Known for creating some of Beyonce’s most iconic red carpet looks, Ty has been there with Beyonce since the beginning. No really, since the Destiny’s Child days. Ty has helped shaped Bey into the style icon she is today and has now branched out into design.

Law Roach

From vintage store owner to probably THE top celebrity stylist in the world right now. Law hit the ground running styling Zendaya Coleman and molding her into a red carpet mainstay. He has now expanded his clientele greatly and dressed top celebs including Anne Hathaway, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Ariana Grande and it just keeps on getting better and better for Law!

Edward Enninful
From W Magazine‘s to now being the first Black editor-in-chief of British Vogue’s history, Edward Enninful has broken so many barriers in his inspiring career. He has been a ontributing for both Italian and American Vogue, as well as serving as the creative director for some of the biggest fashion labels in the world. But it’s not just us that recognize his greatness, he has been recognized by the Queen of England and was honored fashion with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to diversity in fashion from Queen Elizabeth II.


Jason Bolden

Jason has styled some of your favorite leading ladies from Gabrielle Union (even making an appearance as her stylist in her hit TV show “Being Mary Jane”) as well as Amber Riley, Taraji P. Henson, Lala Anthony and most recently Yara Shahidi. Everything he’s done is perfection and knows how to dress a woman’s body by accentuating her best features. His eye for style has even been tapped to create capsule collections and designer collaborations!


Ugo Mozie
There’s no stopping this Nigerian trendsetter. You’ve seen his work on artists including Chris Brown, Travis Scott, Justin Beiber, and Diddy just to name a few. He started out his career at 18 with his clothing line Aston Mozie and by 23 had been appointed PR Director to Vivienne Westwod. Ugo’s star continues to rise with each year and we can’t wait to see him takeover the industry.
