The #1 Way To Bring In Clients Using Social Media

The question that I get asked the most is: “Brittany, how do you book styling jobs/clients?” Truth is, it’s either by word of mouth or because of....SOCIAL MEDIA!

Unless you’ve been living off the grid, you know how social media is both a stylist’s bestie and #1 marketing tool. If you’re not making $$ and gaining clients from your social media, you’re doing it wrong.

You know how fast you scroll on IG; if you can’t get a potential clients attention in if some 5 seconds you’re out. It’s easier than ever to gain exposure and showcase your skills, so I’m going to show you the top 3 ways you can use social media to reel in clientele and bring those scrolling thumbs to a halt, take note!

1.SWITCH TO A BUSINESS PROFILE AND START POSTING YOUR WORK!

Put yourself in a potential client’s shoes-if you go to a “stylist” profile and all they post are pics of a bunch of quotes, selfies, and family pics -would you book them? Sorry to break it to you but none of those screams “I’m a stylist”.

Another big mistake I see stylists do is having a private profile, what are you hiding from? Money?

You have to make it as easy as possible to get yourself in front of the many users on this amazing app, a business account automatically makes your profile public and enables you to list contact buttons so clients can reach you with one click .

You don’t have to delete all of your quotes and selfies, but what you do need is a separate profile that shows the world your talents, create a business profile! It’s so simple:

Styling is your business, so treat it as such. Start posting your work, post behind the scenes of photoshoots ,or if you’re just starting out and have no work yet-post photos of outfits you styled yourself in or your friends, or the latest celebrity fashions that inspire you and a caption with your two cents.

If you’re a personal stylist, you can post style tips in your captions such as how to dress for your body type or since the holidays are around the corner, post outfit inspiration for holiday parties! Just something to show that you are actually a stylist and have an eye for style.

2. USE #HASHTAGS STRATEGICALLY

Hashtags are really what changed the game for me. But I noticed that so many people don’t use hashtags, like at all.

It makes me sad when I see someone with really good work on the gram and I look and there’s not a hashtag in sight...that means no one is going to see your work, plain and simple. Hashtags have been the #1 client draw for me, it’s how I’ve booked most of my jobs this year honestly.

Instagram is a visual search engine, and hashtags are keywords that make your post searchable. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who is looking to hire a stylist. They are most likely to search up “(your city) stylist.” For example, my go-to’s are “#lastylist and #lafashionstylist.

Start strategically hashtagging your posts so potential clients can start FINDING you! Post BTS of shoots or if you do personal styling start posting style tips in your captions and hashtag #(yourcity)stylist.

3. USE IG STORIES TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

Unlike a regular IG post, your Story vanishes in 24 hours, so there’s no need to stress about finding the perfect filter or writing a cute caption. This is great for you because it gives a face to your business, which allows your followers to connect with you on and feel like they know you. Plus if you’re constantly appearing at the top of their feed you’re subconsciously going to come to mind when they think personal stylist or editorial stylist, whatever you promote yourself as, own it!

IG stories can also be used to bring in new followers or at least new eyes to your page by using hashtags and location tags. When someone is searching through a hashtag or location, your Instagram stories with that hashtag appear at the top of the feed, making you even more discoverable!
