Stylist Spotlight: Bebe Jean

If you've logged into Instagram recently, you've surely heard of the mega-successful E-commerce retailer REVOLVE. Whether or not you've shopped on their site, you've definitely seen your fave celebrities/bloggers wearing one of their brands. In recent years, having a strong brand presence online is a must. E-commerce retailers have really stepped their game up in terms of putting out editorial style imagery and REVOLVE is at the forefront of that movement. We caught up with Bebe Jean, a stylist on REVOLVE's editorial team and learned how she went from studying kinesiology at Penn State to styling for the world's hottest online retailer.

Tell us a little about yourself and your career so far? When did you realize you wanted to be a stylist?

My name is Bebe Jean, and I'm currently an editorial stylist for Revolve. I fell in love with fashion at a very young age, but it wasn't until I was in high school when I realized that I wanted to be a stylist.

What inspired you to pursue styling as a career and how did you get your first gig?

I had an amazing fashion design teacher named Mrs.Crane, and her class piqued my interest in the fashion industry. I decided I wanted to be a stylist after I discovered how terrible my sewing skills were. I could always envision the final look; I just wasn't the best at constructing the garments.

I got my first gig through networking, and I was offered an opportunity to style a group of journalists for a web series episode.

Just by looking at your work, we can tell you’re a very creative person. What inspires you?

I draw my inspiration from people's personal style, travels, and different cultures from around the world. Social media gives me access to a whole new world of inspiration that I wouldn't have discovered otherwise.

Walk us through your typical shoot, tell us a bit about how you prep (pulls) to how you keep everything in order while on set.

I freelance in addition to working for Revolve, so when I land a freelancing gig I have to work around my schedule to prep. I usually start sending pull requests a week before the shoot. Organization is key during prep. I like to take photos of the clothes when they arrive, and keep all of the receipts together in a folder. When everything is organized it makes returns much easier.

Is there a project/editorial that you're most proud of?

I'm most proud of landing my first magazine cover. I had a chance to style Yovana Mendoza for Locale Magazine's Orange County July 2018 issue.

What would be your advice to those trying to break into fashion and styling?

Less talk more action. Intern and assist stylists with different backgrounds; there are so many avenues in styling. Work hard, stay persistent, be patient, resourceful, network, and maintain relationships. Also, as you learn and grow start working on your portfolio with other up and coming creatives. You never know when an opportunity might come knocking at your door.
