Maintaining Good Relationships With Showrooms
You hear it all the time-your reputation is everything and it's 100% true. The fashion industry is unbelievable small and word travels quickly. It's so important to maintain a positive reputation because people talk and you never know who knows who. Luckily it's quite simple to just...be a good person but here are some ways to go that extra mile and be remembered in a good light!
Keep clothing in good condition
You know those neighborhood signs that say "drive like your kids live here", in the fashion industry you must handle the clothes like they're your own. That means if you were on a shoot in 90 degrees and the model was dripping in sweat make sure you dry clean that garment. Again, word gets around quickly and you don't want to be known as that stylist who brings back stanky clothes. Just go to your local dry cleaner and spend the $10. It's so easy but you'd be surprised how many stylists don't do this.
Return on time
The quickest way to get on a PR's bad side (which is a place you do NOT want to be) is by failing to return clothes on time. Your word goes a long way, if you say you will return on July 21st, then return on July 21st. Things happen sometimes, in those cases be sure to communicate to the showroom if you can't make it and coordinate another time to return. It's that simple. Most places are willing to work with you but what not to do is go radio silent and run off into the night with their clothes.
Don't Gossip
This should be a given, but it needs to be said over and over again. The last thing you want is to be gossiping with the MUA (makeup artist) and later find out that you were talking $%^& about the creative director who turns out to be her best friend with connections galore; there goes any chance of working with her ever again or anyone else she knows. Just resist the temptation-it will never be in your favor to gossip.
