4 Places Where You Can Find Styling Internships
Written by: Ashley Lam
It may seem like the most simple thing ever, but I find that many of my friends and colleagues often come to me asking, “Where did you find all of your internships?” I am here today to answer that question and provide a guide on how you can source your next internship! When it comes to finding the perfect internship you should have 4 best friends:
Company Career Site
Internship Job Boards
Google (Or another search engine of your preference)
Network
As you're on the hunt for your next internship, follow along as we show you how you can utilize these sources to your advantage!
Company Career Site
Have a specific fashion company in mind that you’ve only dreamed of working for? Now could be your chance! E-Commerce companies (Think places like REVOLVE, Pretty Little Thing, BCBG, etc) usually have links at the very bottom of the front page of their website that will say something along the lines of “Careers”, “Jobs”, or “Work With Us.” Give that link a click and there you will find opportunities available to you!
Internship Job Boards
When I say “internship job boards” I’m referring to sites, such as Indeed.com and Internships.com (or even LinkedIn has job boards). I know a lot of people wonder if these pages are even legitimate, and the answer is yes! They work just like a search engine. Just type in what kind of internship you’re looking for with a location and you can see what opportunities best fit you!
Google (Or another search engine of your preference)
Just like the internship job board sites, Google has tons of listings available to you with opportunities you should flock towards! With same concept as previously mentioned, just search the type of internship you’re looking for (with a location included for a better chance to find something that fits you).
Network
This is a sum of the many people you have crossed paths with during the past 18+ years of your life. Think about who you know with resources that could help you land your next internship! Is there an old alumni who works at a company you always find yourself swooning after? Or a past professor who has decades worth of industry experience? Everyone always knows someone. Even if there’s no one that comes to mind, don’t be afraid to reach out and meet new people! You’d be surprised how many people would love to be of help (this is where LinkedIn comes in handy). Find people you aspire to be like professionally and shoot them a message to set up a coffee date letting them know you’d love to meet. Don’t forget to always thank them and compensate them for their time. They’re doing you a favor!
